Subharmonicon can receive MIDI data at the MIDI IN jack using the included Type A MIDI adapter.  You’ll need a MIDI interface that connects to your computer, often via USB or Thunderbolt on Mac.  

Plug a standard 5-Pin MIDI cable into the OUT of your MIDI interface.  The other end of the cable should attach to the Type A MIDI adapter provided with your Subharmonicon, this 1/8 inch adapter will now plug into your Subharmonicon at the MIDI IN  jack on patchbay.  

Now your computer is connected to the MIDI interface, which will be sending MIDI out to Subharmonicon.  

The next steps involve your DAW’s settings.  Different DAWs have different MIDI preference windows but most will function the same way, so while we’ll discuss the method for using Ableton Live, the same will essentially apply to any other DAW.:
 

  1.  Go to the Options tab, click Preferences, then click the Link/MIDI tab on the left.

  2.  Locate your MIDI Interface as well as Subharmonicon in the Output section and turn the Track and Sync buttons to ON to enable them. 

  3. Press play in Ableton to confirm that Subharmonicon is receiving sync.  It should play along with the DAW’s timeline.  Now send some notes from Ableton, routed through a MIDI channel which can be created by using SHIFT + CMD + T.  Subharmonicon should play the notes that are being transmitted from your DAW (tracking). 

  4.  You’ll want to refer to the Subharmonicon manual for sending MIDI cc’s from your DAW.
