Understanding the Master Volume
Moog One’s Master Volume is at unity gain at 50% (12 o’clock position), introducing up to +12dB of extra gain at maximum volume. Because unity gain is at or close to 100% on many other synthesizers, some users experience an unexpected noise floor at knob positions above 50%. Consider using Moog One with lower Master Volume settings, and a little more makeup gain after the fact. It may help to think of the master volume knob as the master volume on a console mixer.
Turn on Noise Reduction
Moog One’s Noise Reduction controls offer up to -24dB of noise reduction and can be found in SETTINGS > HARDWARE SETTINGS > NOISE REDUCTION. Experimenting with Moog One’s Noise Reduction settings, while also exploring the interplay between Moog One’s Mixer levels, VCA levels, and Master Volume level offers a tremendous range of sound design possibilities and can greatly reduce the perceived noise floor.
Use Balanced Cables
Moog One’s Audio Outputs are balanced outputs; using ¼” TRS balanced cables can reduce the noise floor as well.
