For general troubleshooting of the One, we recommend the following steps:

TABLE OF CONTENTS

INIT Patch Setup

To rule out the possibility that your current patch is causing the problem, switch the synth to an INIT (initialized) patch.

Pressing SHIFT and COMPARE simultaneously creates a new initialized Preset using the Moog One default sound parameters and settings.

Create a New Factory User Space

The User Space is the current Moog One working environment. All Global settings, Presets, Synths, Modulation Matrices, Sequences, Effect settings, and more exist within the confines of the User Space.

Multiple User Spaces can be created, saved, and recalled – either from the internal memory, or from an external USB drive, so there is no need to worry about specific presets or settings that have been created on the instrument being lost.

Custom presets living in older user spaces can be exported and imported into the new user space.

  1. Press the Settings button
  2. On the top row of this screen under the soft buttons, you’ll see an option called “Library”
  3. Scroll with the Master Encoder to “Edit User Space”
  4. You will see an option here called “+++”, press in the Master Encoder to select it
  5. You can now name the User Space whatever you’d like
  6. In the top row under the soft buttons, you’ll see the option called “Create Factory”
  7. The One will display a progress bar while it creates the new User Space

Reload the Firmware

  1. Download the firmware files HERE.
  2. Formatting the USB Flash Drive
    • Windows/PC
      1. Locate the USB drive in your file browser.
      2. Right click on the drive and then select Format
      3. A new window will appear. Under File System, select FAT32. Select Start
    • MacOS
      1. At the top of the screen, select Go and then select Utilities
      2. Open the Disk Utility app from the choices provided (you may need to search for it).
      3. Select the USB drive you wish to format and then select Erase at the top of the Disk Utility window.
      4. A new window will appear where you will need to select either MS-DOS (FAT16) or MS-DOS (FAT32) under Format. Then select Erase.
  3. Loading Firmware on the USB Flash Drive
    1. Moog One firmware can be downloaded from the Moog website. Use the search bar and look up “Moog One firmware”. The most current firmware version will appear as the first option on the page.
    2. After downloading the firmware, you will need to unzip the firmware file to a desired location on your computer.
    3. Copy or drag and drop the firmware file from your computer onto the USB flash drive.
      • Do not place the firmware file in a folder. It needs to be placed on the root directory of the flash drive.
  4. Loading Firmware on the Moog One
    1. Insert the USB flash drive containing firmware into the USB slot on the back of the Moog One.
    2. Select SETTINGS on the front panel of the Moog One. Scroll down and select UTILITIES using the large center encoder knob.
    3. Scroll down and select UPDATE FIRMWARE using the encoder knob.
      • If a message appears stating “USB storage not detected” make sure the USB drive is correctly inserted directly into the USB port, no USB hub. The drive may also need to be formatted (see steps above).
    4. A new window will appear on the Moog One. You will see the firmware file displayed on the screen.
    5. Use the encoder knob to highlight the firmware file. Select CONFIRM using the buttons at the top of the display screen.
    6. The Moog One will then take over and run the firmware update. **Do not power off the Moog One or remove the USB drive at any point during the update.**
    7. The update may take several minutes. When complete, the Moog One will prompt you to power the synth off and back on. You’re all set!

Complete Recalibration

If you are still experiencing trouble with the One, please attempt a complete recalibration. This process takes up to four hours, so it is best to start it overnight.

  1. Ensure the Moog One is updated to firmware version 1.5.0.
  2. Let Moog One warm up for at least 45 minutes.
  3. Connect two 1/4” audio cables (TS or TRS) from SUB OUTS L & R to LINE IN and MIC/LINE IN (trim pot position doesn’t matter).
  4. Press SHIFT+SETTINGS+POLY MORE to reveal the CALIBRATION menu item in SETTINGS
  5. Navigate to SETTINGS - CALIBRATION and select VOICE CARD CALIBRATION
  6. Select RUN CALIBRATION and make sure VOICES = ALL, TUNING = ON, CALIBRATIONS = 17/17.
  7. Press START
  8. On the “START VOICE CARD CALIBRATION” screen, press RUN
  9. A confirmation dialog will appear. Confirm that you want to run the calibration.
  10. Once the calibration has completed, power-cycle your instrument.
  11. View results by navigating to SETTINGS – CALIBRATION – VOICE CARD CALIBRATION – CALIBRATION DATA – VIEW RESULTS. If there is a calibration failure, the specific failed calibration can be selected with the encoder to rerun that calibration.
    • When a full Voice Card Calibration is performed, the Oscillator Compensation Calibration must be run afterwards, even if it was already performed beforehand. This can be done by navigating to SETTINGS - UTILITIES and select OSCILLATOR COMPENSATION.
