You have now just landed your first gig and we understand that this can bring excitement however, also it can be quite a nervous experience so we are InMusic would like to help calm those nerves and get you ready to smash it!

When you land your first gig it will be worth checking out the venue if possible as it will allow you to find out the following:

  • How big is the venue
  • What sound system you are using
  • The look and feel of the venue
  • The crowd you can expect to see
  • What equipment you will be using (If not bringing your setup)

Once you know what you are working with you can start to prepare your setlist for the night and it will be wise to tailor your set for the night and create a playlist. Depending on the gig if you are playing alongside a line up or artists we recommend you look at the artists playing to see what style they are bringing to the night so that you can align yourself with them.

Tip: We recommend that if there is a headliner that you don't play any of there material as that way you allowing them to turn up and do what they do best which will be a sign of respect.

If you are only performer on the night you will have a lot more control and can look to play a larger spectrum of music. You will need to prepare a large setlist for this night with multiple genre's.

Tip: If you can establish an WIFI connection you can look to use streaming services that way you have a larger database to use if you are still in the process of building your library.

Furthermore, if you are taking only USB's or a Laptop to the venue please always make sure to bring backups as you never know what could occur on the night which might result in you needing to have something just in case anything were to go wrong.

Lastly, relax and enjoy yourself as your energy will become infectious to the crowd.
