SoundSwitch features an External MIDI setting that allows for mixers without native MIDI support to be used with SoundSwitch in Performance Mode. To configure your External MIDI Mixer as such, follow the steps below:
Mapping an External MIDI Mixer in SoundSwitch
To map an external MIDI mixer and enable SoundSwitch to control your light shows effectively, you'll need to follow these steps:
1. Initial Considerations:
- If you are a Serato DJ user with any of the Rane SL interfaces, the Denon DS1 interface, or if you wish to mix using all four decks on your controller or mixer, you may need to use the External MIDI mapping feature in SoundSwitch.
2. Access External MIDI Mapping:
- To start mapping, navigate to the MIDI window within SoundSwitch and select the "External Mixer" tab.
3. Mapping Faders:
- To map the faders on your external MIDI mixer, follow these steps for each fader:
a. Right-Click to Initiate Mapping:
- Right-click on the on-screen fader in SoundSwitch to activate the mapping process. The on-screen fader will highlight in red, indicating that it's waiting for a MIDI input.
b. Physically Move the Mixer Fader:
- On your physical mixing hardware, move the fader that you want to map to the corresponding on-screen fader in SoundSwitch.
c. Successful Mapping:
- Once you've successfully mapped the fader, the on-screen fader will highlight in blue, indicating a successful connection. Now, the on-screen fader will react to the movements of the physical fader on your mixer.
4. Repeat for All Faders:
- Repeat these steps for each fader you want to map. Ensure that all faders on your external MIDI mixer are mapped to their corresponding on-screen faders in SoundSwitch.
By mapping your external MIDI mixer, you allow SoundSwitch to control the light shows based on the movements of your mixer's faders. This creates a seamless and synchronized experience between your music and lighting effects. To see this process in action and for more detailed information, refer to the video tutorial provided.
