What's the difference between the LPK25 and the LPK25 mk2?

Do I need a computer to use the LPK25 MK2? 

Yes, the LPK25 MK2 is a  MIDI controller, which means it does not generate sound on its own. Use with a Windows or Mac computer (or iOS device) and compatible Audio/MIDI software will be required to generate sound with the LPK25 MK2. 

How do I get power to the LPK25?

The LPK25 is powered via the included USB cable. Connect this to your computer and the LPK25 will power on. 

How do I download the included software?

You can access all of the included software after registering your product. To register your product, please create an account or sign in to an existing account at inmusicstore.com. You can also navigate to your user account by finding the Account button at the top-right of your product's brand website. 

Once you have logged into your account, click the Register New Product button. 

Follow the prompts to enter the serial number as it appears on your product, as well as the date of purchase and purchase location. You do not need to include the (21) when entering the serial number. From here, navigate to "My Products." Find your LPK25 mk2 and select View Downloads. 

On the right side of your screen, you will have access to download the LPK25 mk2 Software Manager.

How do I use the Sustain Button on the LPK25? 

While held down, the sustain button on the LPK25 allows you to sustain the currently held notes on the keyboard. The notes will release when the sustain button and the keys are released.

If the Arpeggiator is active, then this button will momentarily latch the arpeggiator for as long as the button is held. When released, the Arpeggiator will disengage latching. 

What does the ARP On/Off button do?

Press this button to enable or disable the internal arpeggiator. The arpeggiator affects notes being played on the keyboard only, and its rate is based on the current tempo and time division settings. 

What is an Arpeggiator and how do I use it?

Press this button to turn the Arpeggiator on or off. Pressing it during a latched arpeggio will stop the arpeggio. Hold down ARP ON / OFF and press a labeled key on the LPK25's KEYBOARD to enter new settings for the Arpeggiator (see EDITING PRESETS for more information on these settings):

• Time Division – 1/4 note, 1/4 note triplet ("1/4 T"), 1/8 note, 1/8 note triplet ("1/8 T"), 1/16 note, 1/16 note triplet ("1/16 T"), 1/32 note, or 1/32 note triplet ("1/32 T")
• Arpeggiator Mode – Up, Down, Inclusive, Exclusive,
• Arpeggiator Octave – ARP OCT 0, 1, 2, or 3

What are programs and how do I use them?

Many users ask this question when first launching MPC Beats. Each track you create within a sequence uses a program. There are six types of programs, each of which determines how the track sounds or what it is used for. 

• A drum program uses one or more samples as its sound source. It contains (1) a list of samples and (2) the settings for each sample (i.e., pad assignments, loop points, pitch tuning, effects, etc.). Drum programs are used mostly for creating drum parts and quickly and easily assigning samples to pads. 
• A keygroup program uses one or more samples as its sound source. It contains (1) a list of samples and (2) the settings for each sample (i.e., pitch tuning, effects, etc.). Keygroup programs are used to play samples chromatically with a MIDI keyboard or the MPC pads. 
• A plugin program contains an instance of a plugin through which you can send your track’s MIDI data.
• A MIDI program lets you send your track’s MIDI data to an external MIDI device like a synth or drum machine
• A clip program uses several samples that can be looped (clips). Each clip can be assigned to a pad, which you can press to trigger the clip according to a quantization setting. This lets you create intriguing, layered performances by launching different combinations of clips together
• A CV program lets you send your track’s MIDI data to an external MIDI device that uses control voltage (CV), like a synth. Although this option is selectable, it is usable only with MPC hardware that has CV outputs
