How do I find the IP address of the DN-700R?

  1. Press the MENU button on the DN-700R.  
  2. Use the value dial to scroll to 09 Utility and then press in the value dial to enter.  
  3. Scroll to 05 Network Status and press in the value dial.  
  4. Current IP of the unit will be displayed.
  5. Press MENU to return to the main screen.

 

What type of SD cards and USB drives are compatible with the DN-700R?

The DN-700R supports SD/SDHC cards and USB drives with a capacity up to 32 GB and formatted to FAT16 or FAT32. HFS+ is supported only for playback.

Class 10 SDHC cards are recommended for the most reliable recording results. 

Before committing to any SD or USB media for recording purposes, we recommend first performing the built-in speed check to ensure the best possible recording experience:

  1. Select Utility and rotate the jog dial to select Speed Check, then press ENTER.  The media list is displayed.
  2. Rotate the jog dial to select the media, and press ENTER.
  3. Select OK with the jog dial, and press ENTER.  Media check starts and Check Speed... is displayed. The following results are displayed when the speed check is complete. 
    • Good: The checked media is suitable for use. 
    • Good w/o Rec Mon: The checked media is suitable for simple recording but is unsuitable for recording monitoring. 
    • Poor: The checked media is unsuitable for use.
  4. Select OK and press ENTER.

 

How do I connect to the DN-700R network user interface on my computer?

  1. Ensure that the DN-700R is connected correctly to your network.
  2. Determine the DN-700R IP address following the steps suggested above.
  3. Enter the IP address directly into the address bar of your internet browser.  For example, type "10.10.11.86" into the address bar and press Enter. A window similar to the following screenshot will open.

  4. If you have previously set up a username and password, enter them here and press Go.  If you have not set up a username and password, do not change the user or enter any information into the password field and press Go. The DN-700R user interface will now open.

How do I make my computer an FTP server?

We always recommend contacting your professional I.T. / Network Administrator for specific assistance setting up your network and associated servers.  However, in many cases, the steps suggested in this article may help with the basics of turning a Windows 7 or 8 computer into an FTP server.

 

Why can't I record to an FTP server without saving to an SD card or USB drive?

The DN-700R allows the ability to record audio directly to a connected USB drive or inserted SD card.  It also has the ability to archive those audio recordings directly to an FTP server for backup and immediate access.  The DN-700R does not record directly to an FTP server - the Archiving process simply archives any saved files on the connected USB drive or inserted SD card to the server.  See here to learn how to enable and disable Archiving.

 

How do I enable/disable the Auto Archive feature?

As with most functions, this setting can be adjusted directly from the unit itself, or via the user interface on a network connected unit.  To enable or disable the Auto Archive feature:

From the DN-700

  1. Press the MENU button.
     
  2. Use the value dial to scroll to 03 Archive Setting, then press in the value dial to enter.
     
  3. Scroll to 01 Archive Mode and press in the value dial to enter.
     
  4. Use the value dial to choose the setting you desire, then press inthe value dial to enter.
    • Off - Turns the Auto Archive function off.
    • Auto - Enables the Auto Archive function. This will archive any completed recordings automatically and instantaneously.
    • Timed - Enables the Auto Archive function to archive on a timed schedule which you can manually set.
       
  5. Press MENU to save the setting and return to the main screen.
     

From the User Interface

  1. Open the user interface on a network connected computer.
     
  2. Choose Settings > Archive Settings to view the Archive Setting window.

  3. In the Archive Setting window, click on the drop-down menu next to Archive Mode and choose the setting you desire.  Then choose SAVE.
    • Off - Turns the Auto Archive function off.
    • Auto - Enables the Auto Archive function. This will archive any completed recordings automatically and instantaneously.
    • Timed - Enables the Auto Archive function to archive on a timed schedule which you can manually set.

Note: The DN-700R may need to be power cycled upon completion of this process in order for it to function.

 

Can I transfer files between the FTP server and the inserted SD card/USB drive?

To add files to the SD card or USB drive from the FTP server:

  1. Open the user interface on a network connected computer.
     
  2. Next to File Upload, choose Browse.

  3. Browse to the file you want to upload and choose Open.

  4. Once the file is selected and shows in the File Upload field, choose Upload.

  5. The user interface window will likely shade out and you will receive a message stating Uploading File.  Please wait... Upon completion of the upload, the file will be located on the SD card or USB drive and will be available for playback.

To download files from the SD card or USB drive to the FTP server:

  1. Open the user interface on a network connected computer.
     
  2. In the Track List, click on the file you want to download and then press DOWNLOAD.

  3. The download will begin and will save to a location as determined by your internet browser.

 

My DN-700R keeps disconnecting from the network. What can I do?

This is most likely caused by an early version of the firmware.  First, we recommend updating the firmware by following the steps suggested below:

  • To determine the currently installed firmware version, follow the steps suggested here.  
  • To update the firmware, follow the steps suggested here.

If you continue to experience difficulty connecting to the network, you may also want to consider the following:

  • Reset your router
  • Switch the connection port
  • Switch the connection cable  
  • Contact your professional I.T. or Network Administrator to ensure the network is functioning correctly

How do I find out what firmware version is currently installed?

On the front of the DN-700R:

  1. Press the MENU button.
     
  2. Use the value dial to scroll to 09 Utility and then pressin the value dial to enter.
     
  3. Scroll to 04 Firmware version and press in the value dial to enter.  The currently installed firmware version will show.

 

How do I update the firmware?

To update the firmware on the DN-700R, follow the steps suggested below:

Prepare for Firmware Update


    1. Prepare and attach a USB thumb drive to your computer.
    2. Download the latest firmware update from the DN-700R product page .
    3. Find the firmware file you downloaded, open the zip file and locate the included DN700RFW.BIN file.  
    4. Put the DN700RFW.BIN file on the root level of the USB thumb drive.
       

Update Procedure


    1. Confirm the DN-700R is in standby mode.  If not, turn the unit off.
    2. Attach the USB thumb drive to the DN-700R.
    3. Power the unit on.  The firmware update will automatically begin and a message will appear on the screen.  Turn the value dial to select OK and press in the value dial to enter and begin the update.
    4. Allow the update to complete.  When the update has finished, the DN-700R will automatically reboot.
       

Confirm the Firmware Version


    1. Press the STOP button to ensure that you are in Stop mode.
    2. Press the MENU button and use the value dial to scroll to 09 Utility.  Press in the value dial to enter.
    3. Use the value dial to scroll to 04 Firmware Version and press in the value dial to enter.  Confirm the firmware version matches the latest version located on the DN-700R product page .

 

I am able to record from the ANALOG inputs but not the XLR inputs.  Why not?

By default, the DN-700R record input is set to the UNBAL ANALOG INPUTs, and this can easily be changed.  As with most functions, this setting can be adjusted directly from the unit itself, or via the user interface on a network connected unit.

From the DN-700R

  1. Press the MENU button.
     
  2. Use the value dial to scroll to 02 Preset Setting, then press in the value dial to enter.
     
  3. Scroll to 09 Audio Input and press in the value dial to enter.
     
  4. Scroll to the input you want to record from, then press inthe value dial to enter. 
    • Unbal - Sets the record input to the unbalanced RCA input connections.
    • Bal - Sets the record input to the balanced XLR input connections.
    • AES/EBU - Sets the record input to the Digital AES/EBU XLR input connection.
    • Coaxial - Sets the record input to the Coaxial digital input connection.
       
  5. Press MENU to save the setting and return to the main screen.

 

From the User Interface

  1. Open the user interface from a network connected device.
     
  2. Choose SETTINGS > PRESET SETTING to view the PRESET SETTING window.

  3. In the PRESET SETTING window, click on the drop-down menu next to Audio Input and select the input of your choice.  Then press SAVE.
    • Unbal - Sets the record input to the unbalanced RCA input connections.
    • Bal - Sets the record input to the balanced XLR input connections.
    • AES/EBU - Sets the record input to the Digital AES/EBU XLR input connection.
    • Coaxial - Sets the record input to the Coaxial digital input connection.

 

Why doesn't the DN-700R start recording when I push the Record button?

By default, the DN-700R is set so that pushing the REC button enters the product into a Record-armed or Record-enabled mode.  If you prefer that the product immediately begins to record as soon as the REC button is struck, enable the One Touch Record function.  To do so:

  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Use the value dial to scroll to 02 Preset Setting, then press in the value dial to enter.
  3. Scroll to 08 One Touch Record and press in the value dial to enter.  
  4. Use the value dial to toggle the One Touch Record feature to On, then press in the value dial to enter.
  5. Press MENU to save the setting and return to the main screen.
