Configuring your Oxygen in Ableton Live using the Oxygen’s pads as drum pads

IMPORTANT: Your Oxygen MKV should automatically map and configure to Ableton Live when connected. If for some reason your Oxygen MKV doesn’t auto-configure, please follow the steps below.

 

1. Connect your Oxygen to your computer.

2. Press the DAW/Preset button (#1) on your Oxygen keyboard to enter into DAW mode. Notice that the DAW button is now lit (#2)

3. Press and hold the DAW/Preset button (#2) on your Oxygen keyboard.



4.  Using the < and > Buttons (#3 or 4), scroll to “n1” and then release the DAW/Preset button to select it.


Your transport controls, faders, buttons, knobs, and pads will now have messages mapped for Ableton Live.


To provide the most versatile controller, the Oxygen series has 2 modes, Preset and DAW mode. When in DAW mode all of the controls will be used for controlling DAW functions and controls. When in Preset mode all of the controls will be used for controlling Virtual Instrument parameters and controls.


Software Setup

1. Launch Ableton Live or Live Lite

2. Open the Ableton Live Lite Preferences window. If you are using a Mac, go to Live > Preferences. If you are using a PC, go to Options > Preferences.

3, Select the Link / MIDI tab on the left. Under the MIDI Ports section, adjust the settings as follows:
  • Under Control Surface, select Oxygen 5th generation, for Input and Output select Oxygen ## MKV Mackie/HUI (Port 2).
  • Next to Input: Oxygen ## MKV, select On in the Track column (if using the Oxygen ## MKV as the external clock source, turn on Sync).
  • Next to Input: Oxygen ## (Port 2), select On in the Track and Remote columns.
  • Next to Output: Oxygen ## MKV, select On in the Track column (if using the Ableton Live as the external clock source, turn on Sync).
  • Next to Output: Oxygen ## MKV (Port 3), select On in the Track and Remote columns.

4. Close the Preferences window.
 
5. To add an instrument or plugin to trigger with Oxygen, select Instruments or Plug-ins in the Categories column.




6. In the Name column to the right of the Categories column, locate the Instrument or Plug-in of your choice. Click-and-drag the instrument to a MIDI track in Ableton Live Lite to load the instrument. The Instrument can now be triggered with the Oxygen ## MKV



Note: Be sure to enable Arm Record in order to hear your MIDI instrument.

Configuring your Oxygen in Ableton Live using the Oxygen’s pads to control clips

4. Using the < and > Buttons (#3 or 4), scroll to “n3” and then release the DAW/Preset button to select it.

4. Close the Preferences window.

5. To add an instrument or plugin to trigger with Oxygen, select Instruments or Plug-ins in the Categories column.
 


6. In the Name column to the right of the Categories column, locate the Instrument or Plug-in of your choice. Click-and-drag the instrument to a MIDI track in Ableton Live Lite to load the instrument. The Instrument can now be triggered with the Oxygen ## MKV
 


Note: Be sure to enable Arm Record in order to hear your MIDI instrument.

Automatic Mapping in Ableton

When the Oxygen MKV is using the “Oxygen Pro” Control Surface in Ableton Live, the pads will be used to control clips. You can change the Oxygen MKV to control clips by following the setup instructions listed in the previous section “Configuring your Oxygen in Ableton Live using the Oxygen’s pads to control clips”

 

OXYGEN 5th Gen Control Surface

FADERS (49-key and 61-key)

The first 8 FADERS control the Volume of the Tracks within the colored border.
The 9th FADER controls the Volume of the Main Track.


FADER (25-key)

The FADER controls the Volume of the Main Track.


FADER BUTTONS (49-key and 61-key)

The first 8 buttons directly underneath the FADERS (referred to as the FADER BUTTONS) control various properties of the Tracks within the colored border. The various properties can be toggled between via the button labeled DAW BUTTON MODE (Fader Button 9).

REC

The FADER BUTTONS will control Track Arming.

SOLO

The FADER BUTTONS will control Track Soloing.

MUTE

The FADER BUTTONS will control Track Activation.

SELECT

The FADER BUTTONS will select Tracks.



FADER BUTTON (25-key)

Triggers Live's Undo function.


OTHER CONTROLS

SHIFT

Modifies the function of other controls.

< and >

Move between banks of 8 Tracks to control.

LOOP

Toggles Arrangement Loop.

STOP

Stops playback.

PLAY

Toggles playback.

RECORD

Toggles Session Record when in Session View and Arrangement Record when in Arrangement View.

KNOBS

The KNOBS control various parameters of the 8 Tracks under control as well as the parameters of the selected Device. The parameter to control can be selected by holding down the SHIFT button and using the PADS labeled DAW KNOB CONTROL.

VOLUME (25-key only)

The KNOBS will control Track Volume.

PAN

The KNOBS will control Track Panning.

DEVICE

The KNOBS will control parameters of the selected Device

SENDS

The KNOBS will control Track Send levels. By default, Send A will be controlled.
Subsequent presses of the SENDS PAD will toggle between Send A and Send B.


PADS

The PADS can be used to play Drum Racks and other instruments in Pad Banks 1 and 2. When the SHIFT button is held down, the PADS labeled DAW KNOB CONTROL are used to select the parameter the KNOBS should control.
 

OXYGEN Pro Control Surface

COLORED BORDER

When the Oxygen Pro Control Surface is used with the Oxygen MKV in Live, a colored border that surrounds the Tracks and Scenes, that the Oxygen MKV controls, will be displayed in Live. The position of this colored border determines which Tracks and Scenes will be controlled by the various controls on the Oxygen MKV.

The colored border can be moved horizontally (to select the group of Tracks to control) via the < and > buttons and vertically (to select the group of Scenes to control) via SHIFT and < and >.


FADERS (49-key and 61-key)

The first 8 FADERS control the Volume of the Tracks within the colored border.
The 9th FADER controls the Volume of the Main Track.


FADER (25-key)

The FADER controls the Volume of the Main Track.


FADER BUTTONS (49-key and 61-key)
