Beginning in April 2021, all BFD3 users are encouraged to migrate their existing accounts from FXpansion to an inMusic Profile on the new BFD website, bfddrums.com. This new website is home to all things BFD, including continued support via software updates. Once users are migrated over, all of their BFD products will be accessible. This article contains step-by-step information on how to migrate your BFD product information from FXpansion.com to an inMusic profile on bfddrums.com.

Migration Process

I own BFD3

If you own BFD3 you’ll need to migrate your account data from the FXpansion website to a new inMusic Profile on bfddrums.com.

The process is mostly automated, but will require you to follow a few steps:

  1. Visit www.fxpansion.com and log into your account
  2. Once logged in, click the button that says MIGRATE BFD PRODUCTS TO InMUSIC PROFILE (Before you click this button, please ensure you have got a valid email address for your account. Use the EDIT ACCOUNT DETAILS button to update this if you need to.)

  3. You’ll be prompted to click a button that will send an e-mail to you to start the migration. Click SEND ME AN EMAIL.

  4. Open your e-mail and click on the provided link.

  5. Check that all your BFD3 products are listed. Click the SEND button to migrate your BFD products to a new inMusic Profile.

  6. There are two potential outcomes here:
    • If you already have an inMusic Account under the same email address, your BFD data will be added to this existing account. Your migration process is complete, and you will be taken to a page to download the updated license manager software. No password reset is necessary. You can access your inMusic account by clicking Account in the top-right at bfdddrums.com to view your BFD product registrations.

    • If you do not already have an inMusic Account, one will be created for you using the same email address as your FXpansion account. Once the process is complete you will receive a message to check your e-mail for a message from inMusic.

  7. Open the e-mail from inMusic and verify your new account by setting a password.

  8. Follow the on-screen directions to complete your account setup.

  9. Once completed, all of your BFD products and updates will be available from your new inMusic Profile.

What if I no longer have access to the email used in my fxpansion.com account?

During the migration process, an inMusic account will be created for you automatically using the email address assigned to your fxpansion.com account. If you no longer have access to this email account, you will need to change this in order to complete the migration process.

To change your email address, log in to your account at fxpansion.com and navigate to Edit Account Details. Place your current email address in the Email Address field and make sure to check off the box for "I want to receive news from FXpansion" to ensure that you are able to receive emails from FXpansion.com. Click SAVE to complete the process.

Once this is complete, click the MIGRATE BFD PRODUCTS TO InMUSIC to continue with the migration process.

What if I don't receive the email after clicking MIGRATE BFD PRODUCTS TO InMUSIC?

Please navigate to Edit Account Details in your fxpansion.com account and ensure the following:

  • The email address listed is correct.
  • The box for "I want to receive news from FXpansion" is checked
Depending on traffic and other factors, it may take a few minutes to get the email.

Can I continue to use my legacy BFD software if I don't want to upgrade to BFD 3.4?

Yes! BFD1/2/Eco can still be used on your current computer, but it will not be able to be authorized again. This means that your current projects are safe! We recommend bouncing audio stems/ midi files of your parts, to later integrate them into BFD 3.4.

Please Note: If you change computers, or update your OS/Computer Components, you will lose access to BFD 1/2/Eco.

Will BFD1/2/Eco and BFD 3.4 install and run side-by-side?

Yes, with a catch.

While this is not something that has been officially tested, the migration process will not remove access to BFD 1/2/Eco - it will still be usable in tandem with BFD 3.4, though it will still be reliant on the old FXpansion License Manager.

Please note: This is outside of the supported usage of BFD3 - any and all legacy software is no longer eligible for support.

Will BFD 3.4 automatically replace BFD1/2/Eco in my DAW session?

No - but, you can very easily export midi files from your legacy builds of BFD, which can be seamlessly triggered by BFD 3.4.

How can I migrate my BFD1/2/Eco kits for use in BFD 3.4?

Factory Audio Content from BFD 1/2/Eco cannot be used with BFD 3.4; this audio content has been packaged as BFD El Dorado (for BFD 1) and BFD London Sessions (For BFD 2).
