First, visit MPC Stems Separation to purchase Stems.



Click 'Buy Now' to be redirected to the checkout window. Follow the prompts to make your purchase.


Important! Be sure to use the email address that is associated with your Akai Pro account when checking out. This will ensure that the Stems license is deposited into the correct account. 


Update MPC


To use Stems, you must first upgrade to MPC 2.14 software and firmware, you can download each here; MPC Software & Firmware Downloads or by using the "check for updates" function in MPC 2.0 by going to Help> Check for updates. You can also update your standalone device's firmware by going to Preferences>info>Update.  


For Standalone, update your hardware to MPC 2.15 by pressing Menu > Preferences > Info Update

Activate Stems


Once you have updated, open MPC 2.14, and go to MPC>Settings (Mac), or Edit>Preferences (Windows).


Mac: MPC > Preferences 


Windows:  Edit > Preferences



Then, you will want to click on the Activate Plugins page and log into your inMusic account. 



Next click Activate, and press the download Icon to download and install Stems. 



Use Stems! 


Load or record a sample, and in the Sample Edit screen, select the Stems icon:

Troubleshooting


I purchased Stems and logged into my inMusic Profile, the Activation button is missing in MPC2... What should I do? 


Upon checkout of MPC Stems Separation, you're prompted to use your inMusic Profile email address which deposits the license into your Akai Pro account/inMusic Profile:



If you've made a typo or accidentally used the incorrect email address, this will result in a missing 'Activate' button in the MPC2 Software.

  • Correct E-Mail Address for inMusic Profile


Error: 'Unable to Initialise Stems'


MPC 2.14 runs natively on macOS & Apple Silicon (M1/M2) processors - You might see this error pop-up if you're running MPC via Rosetta 2. 


You can quickly solve this issue by disabling Rosetta:

  1. Quit MPC App
  2. Open Finder > Applications > Locate 'MPC' App
  3. Right-click (or CTRL + Click) on MPC App
  4. Select 'Get Info'
  5. Un-check 'Open using Rosetta'

Error: 'Content Download Failed' 


Enable Disk Space Permissions

If Disk Permissions have not been granted to the MPC2 software, it will prevent the application from being able to download Stems Separation. 


To allow disk space permissions for MPC2, see below:


macOS:

  • Click on the Apple icon on the top left corner of your screen.
  • Select System Preferences.
  • Go to Security & Privacy Preferences > Privacy and click Full Disk Access from the left panel.
  • Tick the checkbox for MPC Software. If the lock at the bottom is left locked, click it to unlock the Privacy pane. 
  • If you can’t locate MPC Software here, click the ‘+’ icon and select MPC from the list of available applications.


Windows:

  • In Windows 10, go to Start  > Settings  > Privacy > File system > Allow Apps to Access your File System- On
  • In Windows 11, go to Start  > Settings  > Privacy & security > File system > File System Access - On and Let apps access your file system - On



Interrupted Stems Download

An interrupted download may prevent Stems Separation from fully downloading, resulting in the error message 'Content Download Failed' OR 'Unable to Initialise Stems'. 


To solve this problem, see the steps below:


macOS:

  • Quit the MPC Software
  • Open Finder
  • Show Hidden files on Mac: ‘CMD’ + ’SHIFT’ + ’period'
  • Navigate to Macintosh HD >  Users > *User Name Folder* > Library > Application Support > Akai > MPC 
  • Locate Folder 'Libs'
  • Right-click on the folder and select 'Move to Trash'
  • Empty Trash
  • Disable any VPNs and ensure the Wi-Fi connection is stable
  • Navigate back to MPC2 and start the download process again
    • Open MPC2
    • Navigate to Preferences
    • Click Activations left pane
    • Click Download by MPC Stems Separation



Windows

  • Close down the MPC Software
  • Navigate to the following location: C:\ProgramData\Akai\MPC
  • Locate folder 'Libs'
  • Move to the Recycle Bin
  • Empty Recycle Bin
  • Disable any VPNs and ensure the Wi-Fi connection is stable
  • Navigate back to MPC2 and start the download process again
    • Open MPC2
    • Navigate to Preferences
    • Click Activations left pane
    • Click Download by MPC Stems Separation
