If you are setting up your Rane Twelve MKII for the first time, or if you are experiencing issues with the device working properly, try the following steps to ensure you are setup correctly.
Method 1: USB MIDI
If you wish to use the Twelve MKII as a MIDI device, you will need to connect a USB cable from the unit to your computer. This can be accomplished one of three different ways:
- Connect the Twelve MKII USB directly to your computer(if you have enough available ports)
- Connect the Twelve MKII to a powered USB hub(if you don't have enough available ports)
- Connect the Twelve MKII to a mixer with a built-in USB hub(Rane Seventy, Rane Seventy-Two MKII, etc.)
Once you have connected your USB cables, you may then assign each of your Twelves to the corresponding deck you wish to control, using the Deck 1-4 buttons on the unit. (Please note 2 channel mixers will only allow access to decks 1 and 2.)
Confirm the Twelve MKII LCD screen reads Serato USB. If it does not, press and hold the HOLD FOR DVS MODE button until the button begins to flash, then a single button press will toggle between the available modes.
Ensure Serato DJ Pro's virtual decks are set to Internal(INT) mode and you are ready to DJ!
Method 2: DVS
The RANE TWELVE MKII emits a Serato Control Tone from the RCA connections on the underside of the unit. This allows you to control Serato DJ Pro’s decks with DVS control.
If you wish to use the Rane Twelve MKII with DVS, you will need to connect the RCA outputs on the underside of the unit to the inputs of your Serato-ready mixer or controller that supports DVS.
Once you have connected your RCA cables, confirm the Twelve MKII LCD screen reads Serato DVS. If it does not, press and hold the HOLD FOR DVS MODE button until the button begins to flash, then a single button press will toggle between the available modes.
Ensure Serato DJ Pro's virtual decks are set to Relative(REL) mode and you are ready to DJ!
If you are using a non-Rane mixer such as the Pioneer DJM series, in the Serato settings menu(gear icon in the upper right corner of the screen) navigate to the Audio tab and make sure you have CDJS selected.
Method 3: DVS/MIDI hybrid mode
To use a hybrid of both DVS and USB MIDI, connect both the USB and RCA connections. This will allow you to use performance features such as hot cues, needle search and browse via the USB connection while using DVS to control the platter.
Once you have connected your RCA and USB cables, confirm the Twelve MKII LCD screen reads Serato DVS.
Ensure Serato DJ Pro's virtual decks are set to Relative(REL) mode and you are ready to DJ!
